RIO ADVENTURES

A trip to Rio De Janeiro, aka a once in a lifetime opportunity and the most memorable trip of my life.

Arriving at midnight, glimpsing out the window I could just make out the outline of the Favela district, with glimmers of light peering out from the huts. As we approached Copacabana beach Christ The Redeemer shone like a beacon illuminating the darkness from the mountain tops. The waves were metres high crashing along the coast line, the entire beach lit up by flood lights with people playing volley ball and relaxing at the dead of night.

Stepping out the car and into the heat of Copacabana beach I walked up the steps and into the grand entrance of the JW Marriott Hotel, greeted by its stunning decor. The suite itself had a seaview and after a good nights sleep I opened the curtains where the view was truly breathtaking, unable to quite comprehend I was in Rio.

The decor was grander than the previous modern Renaissance in Sao Paulo, with rich decor of oak and deep reds, contrasting to the stark white sands a crystal blue sea outside. With a separate lounge, and walk in wardrobe I knew I was about to make myself very at home. From walking across the road to the beach or sun soaking by the rooftop pool and gym the hotel is ideally located to see the sights of Rio.

WHAT TO DO

Of course there are many things to do in Rio De Janeiro and if I had spent a few extra days there I would have fitted more in. These were top of my list of destinations I wanted to see before I left.

Sugar Loaf Mountain is a peak situated at the mouth of Guanabara Bay on a peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean, a mere 15 minutes from our hotel. Rising 396 metres above the harbour, ascent by cable car, the panoramic views of the entire city are incredible.

You can’t go to Brazil and not make a trip to see Christ The Redeemer, an iconic statue known across the world. Not only are the views spectacular but the sheer size of the statue perched on top of a mountain peak is an experience never to forget.

Ipanema Beach at Sunset - take a glass of wine and wander down the coastline, a 15 minute stroll from Copacabana to Ipanema. The sky turns an of magical array colours as the sunsets behind the neighbouring twin peaks. Warm air, the sound of the ocean crashing and good company is just pure bliss.
